Meridian Manufacturing: Flour Silos

Meridian Flour Storage Silos provide bakeries, food processors, and ingredient manufacturers with dedicated bulk flour storage designed to support consistent production and product quality. By increasing on-site storage capacity and reducing reliance on bagged ingredients, flour silos help simplify material handling while ensuring flour is available when it is needed.

Engineered for food production environments, Meridian Flour Storage Silos are designed to support the storage and handling requirements of bulk flour and other powdered ingredients. SmoothWall construction promotes reliable flow and clean discharge, while customizable configurations allow systems to be integrated with pneumatic conveying, ingredient handling, and production processes. Available in a range of capacities, each silo is engineered around the material being stored and the operational requirements of the facility.

Common Applications

  • Commercial bakeries
  • Food processing facilities
  • Flour milling operations
  • Ingredient manufacturing and distribution

Engineered Around Your Application

Every flour handling application has unique process requirements, which is why Meridian does not offer a standard flour silo. Instead, each system is engineered around the customer’s material characteristics, production process, downstream equipment, and facility layout to deliver a storage solution that integrates with the overall operation.

Design considerations commonly include steep cone angles between 55° and 70° to promote reliable mass flow, food-contact approved premium interior coatings, fully welded interior seams to support sanitation and minimize areas where product can accumulate, and flow-assistance systems such as fluidizer discs where required. Discharge arrangements are tailored to the application, whether feeding live-bottom systems, screw conveyors, rotary valves, vibratory discharges, fluidized beds, or other process equipment.

Beyond the silo itself, Meridian evaluates ventilation, aspiration, dust collection, explosion venting, instrumentation, access systems, and future expansion requirements as part of the overall design. The result is a flour storage solution engineered to support your process, rather than requiring your process to adapt to a standard silo.

FAQ

Many operations transition to bulk storage when ingredient volumes increase to the point where handling, storing, and disposing of bags becomes inefficient. Bulk storage can simplify ingredient receiving, reduce material handling, and provide greater inventory capacity on-site.

Storage capacity should be based on flour consumption rates, delivery schedules, production volumes, and future growth plans. Meridian works with customers to determine storage requirements that align with operational goals and supply chain needs.

Yes. Meridian can work with facility owners, engineers, and contractors to integrate flour storage into existing ingredient handling and conveying systems while accommodating site and building constraints. Material characteristics, discharge requirements, conveying systems, facility layout, sanitation considerations, and production demands all influence silo design. Each Meridian silo is engineered around the specific application and process requirements.

Bulk storage helps ensure a consistent supply of ingredients to production, reduces manual handling requirements, and creates a centralized storage and transfer point for flour within the facility.
